As part of Negro Leagues Heritage Night (Saturday, 6/29), the Richmond Flying Squirrels will honor the impact and contributions made by members of the Negro Leagues to the game of baseball. Though Richmond did not have a team in the Negro Leagues, the city’s history of Black baseball is rich. In partnership with the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, the Flying Squirrels will have reading materials, programming and artifacts for fans to learn about Black players from Virginia who played in the Negro Leagues. The team will wear special uniforms inspired by the Negro Leagues, which will be auctioned during the game. All proceeds will benefit Flying Squirrels Charities’ mission to provide youth in Richmond access to athletic and educational opportunities.
