About the Pensacola Pok-Ta-Tok:
Pok-Ta-Pok was the first ballgame played in the Americas, played as early as 3,000 years ago across Mesoamerica. It was primarily a sport played by the Mayans, but courts have been found across the region. It was a rough, rugged sport played by trying to knock an 8-pound solid rubber ball through elevated hoops with only the hips or torso. Picture basketball played with a medicine ball, but you can't use your hands.
The identity for the Pensacola Pok-Ta-Pok was created by a Mexican artist named Jacobo Vidal who lives in Mexico City. He incorporated features of traditional Mexican artwork into our logos, choosing the colors and designing the logo and uniforms. The logo shows a Pok-Ta-Pok player playing the game in front of the famous El Castillo pyramid at the Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico. Chichen Itza has one of the largest and most well-preserved original Pok-Ta-Pok courts.
